The 30 Best Offline Games for Android

These days, there’s nothing better than tuning out the world and diving into a good mobile game. But if you’re headed on vacation somewhere without internet, like on a flight or out camping, many games won’t work. That’s why we’ve gathered a list of the best Android games that work offline.

Popular games like Call of Duty: Mobile and Fortnite need an internet or data connection for battle, you need the internet for Pokemon GO, and most popular games rely on some sort of data connection. That said, you can still play tons of exciting games across all different genres when you go offline. These are the games you’ll want to download on your Android to play without an internet connection. We also have some great offline games for the iPhone or iPad.

Before You Get Started

Many of the games listed below need internet access at least once. You’ll need 4G/5G or Wi-Fi to install the app, then make sure to open it once, so the game downloads any assets, updates, or connects to Google Play Games. You’ll want to do this at home or somewhere with internet access before you head to the airport or out of cell range.

Action Games

There are several excellent offline action games or shooter games to try. And while you won’t be able to enjoy multiplayer battles or games with massive maps, you still have plenty of choices.

• Brothers in Arms 3: A gripping World War II-era third-person shooter game that puts you in charge of 12 “brothers in arms,” and each person has unique yet deadly weapons. It’s a multiplayer shooter that you can enjoy without an internet connection.  
• Grand Theft Auto Games: Fun fact. Did you know that all of the GTA mobile games work offline, including the ultra-popular GTA 3? Just download the map and assets with the internet first, and you’ll be set for all sorts of fun antics. 
• UNKILLED: From the popular developers at MadFinger Games, UNKILLED is a zombie-apocalypse survival game. And while it’s several years old at this point, it’s still insanely fun and happens to have a solid offline mode.
• Grimvalor: Those looking for a hack-and-slash adventure game will love Grimvalor. Wander through giant dark castles, hone your craft, and excel as a young, fearless warrior.
• Into the Dead 2: If you love zombie apocalypse games and want to feel like you’re inside The Walking Dead show, consider Into the Dead 2. This shooter will have you on the edge of your seat, as it’s insanely intense.
• Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: Star Wars KOTOR is technically an RPG, but there’s so much lightsaber action we couldn’t help but put it into this category. Set 4000 years before the Galactic Empire, you’ll lead a party of heroes and villains and try to save the galaxy. You can also play KOTOR 2, which also works offline. 
• Morphite: Last up is this compelling space-adventure action game. In it, humanity has conquered a large part of the galaxy, and you’ll battle your way through the galaxy searching for one of the rarest materials ever found—Morphite.

Racing Games

Offline racing games are a great way to kill time when there’s no internet. As long as you’re not playing something with micro-transactions throughout, like where you’ll have to buy gas to keep racing, you’ll be set for hours.

• Real Racing 3: Racing games are great for playing offline, and one of the best (to this day) is the old Real Racing 3. Though it’s been several years since it was initially released, it still delivers excellent graphics, some of the most realistic simulation racing, and you can play it anywhere. We’re hopeful for a fourth installment, eventually.
• Asphalt 8 Airborne: The entire Asphalt series is worth downloading to enjoy offline, but Asphalt 8: Airborne is by far the best in the series, in my opinion. Crazy NOS-boosting speeds, crazy jumps, and pretty awesome graphics considering it came out quite a while ago.
• Horizon Chase: Fans of old-school arcade racer games will absolutely love this title. It’s a retro racer title just like the good old days, complete with 100 different tracks in beautiful 16-bit graphics. Give it a try and enjoy the nostalgia.
• CSR Racing 2: If you’d rather drift around corners instead of speeding up winding mountains, give CSR Racing a try. This game delivers console-like graphics, dozens of car tuning add-ons, and insane drifts from Tokyo to California.
• Need for Speed: No Limits: Some of the best racing games for mobile all work offline, including NFS: No Limits. This is still one of the best mobile NFS games, if not racing games, period, so put the pedal to the metal and run from the cops.
• Hill Climbing Racing 2: I don’t know why, but these endless runner-style racing games are a blast. Hill Climbing Racing 1 and 2 are both excellent and work offline.

Adventure Games

If you’re looking for an exciting adventure game to play offline, we have you covered. Obviously, you can’t play open-world games where each map has to actively load, but here are a few of the best options that’ll offer you downloadable gameplay for hours.

• Alto’s Adventure: If there’s one game that stands above the rest in terms of enjoyment, excitement, relaxation, and works offline, it’s Alto’s Adventure. This game has you snowboarding down a mountain, and it’s one of the most popular side-scrolling games to this day. It’s an endless runner with neat visuals and a fun soundtrack.
• Alto’s Odyssey: Odyssey is an endless runner like the original, only you’ll be sandboarding through the scorching hot desert. Explore canyons and temples while occasionally grinding down long rock walls. There’s an excellent soundtrack, plenty of gameplay to enjoy, and it works offline. 
• Minecraft: This game needs no introduction. As long as you’re not trying to play on a server or join friends, you can enjoy endless hours of building worlds or anything else you want in Minecraft—even offline.  
• Badland: This award-winning title is one you’ll absolutely want to download if you haven’t already. Its exciting action-adventure sidescroller gameplay is fun, creepy, and enjoyable, with a warming atmosphere you’ll have to play to appreciate. 
• Vector: When I fly or travel, Vector is the first game I turn to. This parkour-inspired action-adventure game is one of Android’s most enjoyable sidescroller games. I’ve played it for hours on end, yet I’m still learning new tricks each time I fire it up. Just try it, you won’t be disappointed. There’s a Vector 2, also, but it’s not quite as good.

Puzzle Games

Puzzle games are extremely popular for offline mobile gaming, as they’re usually not very involved. Everything detailed below will get you thinking, and before you know it, that flight will be over.

• Bejeweled: Is there a classic game quite like Bejeweled? I don’t think so. You’ll be happy to learn it’s still fun to play, works offline, and is just as fun as you remember.
• Two Dots: A beautifully designed puzzle adventure game that’ll keep you busy for hours on end. When this brainteaser first came out, it was the #1 game in over 100 countries. I see someone playing it every time I fly, so give it a try today. You’re welcome!
• Monument Valley 2: While the first Monument Valley is still excellent, the second release is even more challenging, and we love it. Guide a mother and her child through a journey of pathways, illusions, and geometry in a delightful and award-winning puzzler. This game won awards for the soundtrack alone, so you know it’ll be worth the download. 
• Threes!: If you want to waste several hours enjoying an excellent puzzle game, give this one a try. While Threes! is an older title, it’s still worth recommending as it’s one of the best puzzlers, plus it gets more difficult the further you go.
• The Room: This game is a physical and mental puzzler wrapped inside a mystery game, and if you haven’t experienced it yet, you’re in for fun. Sure, the graphics aren’t all that great, but everything else about The Room is as good as it gets. And when you’re done, download the other three for the next time you travel.
• Flow Free: This last title is almost like the classic game Snake, only more exciting. Connect matching colors with pipes to create a flow. But don’t overlap or get too long, as it’ll be a challenge that ends up with your demise. 

Strategy Games

Unfortunately, most real-time strategy (RTS) games don’t always work that great offline. However, a few developers found a way to create some excellent options, which we’ve detailed below.

• Poker Offline Texas Holdem: Many games fall into the strategy category, but none are better than good old Texas Hold ’em. This is the classic card game you know and love, built for offline mobile gameplay. 
• Fallout Shelter: Bethesda’s Fallout Shelter is still an all-time classic. The mobile version is definitely different than its console counterparts, but it won several awards. If you’re a fan of the franchise but never played it, what are you waiting for?
• Reigns: Every card you choose in Reigns will have massive effects on the kingdom you preside over, meaning every time you play, it’ll be completely different from the last time. It’s exciting and never gets old.
• Machines at War 3: Not everyone enjoys RTS games, but if you do, this one will keep you busy for hours. Build and master over 130 types of units, battle insane enemies, conquer everyone and enjoy one of the best strategy games for Android.
• Valleys Between: Discover the quiet mysteries of the valley and create a beautiful world full of life in Valleys Between. This is a casual strategy game different from most, but you’ll still enjoy all it has to offer as you develop a community and nurture your world.
